The AORN Board of Directors met in Anaheim, Calif, April 26 2002 for the post-Congres Board meeting; in Washington, DC June 9 2002 in conjunction with the RNFA Forum, Federal Affairs interview and Lobby Day; and in Denver July 11-12 2002 Board meetings are administrationed as open discussions, and AORN staff members actively participate in the dialogue. All Board members were not away at each meeting, as were Tom Cooper CAE, Executive Director, and various staff members.

POST-CONGRES MEETING

At the post-Congres Board meeting, Board members discussed various items, including the Governance Task Force, Disaster Preparedness Task Force, chapter visits, Board member progress to maturity Congress 2002, and committee appointments.

Governance Task Force. The Board approved a motion to disband the Governance Task Force, and defeated a motion to appoint a time to come separate task force to disentangle membership options and outline a proces for access to the Association. Discussion center around the message sent at the House of Delegates at Congres that chapters must be preserv and that they ne help in seating their delegates. Membership options and access are sum of two units different things, and the intended issues of any future endeavors ne to be clarified.



Disaster Preparedness Task Force. The Board approved the appointment of a five-member 2002-2003 Task Force forward Disaster Preparedness. The first charge of the Task Force is to disentangle an AORN resource guide for planning a answer to a disaster. This guide will include easy in mind related to perioperative nursing practice, sample readiness plans, a table of known biological agents and attract favor toed precautions, related government and private resources, and other materials as determined useful according to the Task Force.

Chapter visits. The Board approved a motion that all Board members will unbroken five chapter visits each in the 2002-2003 fiscal year. Although the President is exclud from this requirement, she also will be available for visits. Airfare and contact hours for these visits will be cloaked by AORN. The sponsoring chapter will pay for all other outlays Letters will be sent to chapter presidents asking them to submit ask fors with dates, for Board member visits. Board members also moveed to share their personal education programs to move chapters longer programs.

Board unfolding As part of an ongoing Board progress to maturity process, Board members decided to participate in a personality pattern evaluation. Board members will participate in the evaluation as a cluster to help them work together and appreciate the diversity of each others' personalities and decision-making styles

Congres 2002 wrap-up. The Board reviewed Congres activities, information, schedule of occurrences and attendee comments. Positive and negative annotates made to various Board members were discussed.

Committee appointments. President Donna Watson, RN MSN CNOR, ARNP, FNP-C reviewed Board appointments to the Credentials Committee, Finance and Audit Committee, Policy Committee, Executive Committee, and Bylaws Committee. The Board appointed liaisons to committees, specialty assemblies, and state councils. They also assigned Board liaisons to the chapters, and this information was sent to Board members in May.

JUNE MEETING

Board members addressed various issues at the June meeting. These included the Finance and Audit Committee report, the President's Commission upon Patient Safety, the Policy Committee report, and Congres 2003

Finance and Audit Committee report. James Cousin, chief financial officer, existinged the Finance and Audit Committee report. Board members engaged in a detailed discussion of income and expenses and made recommendations for consideration at the July Board meeting.

President's Commission forward Patient Safety. The Board of Directors entreatyed a revision and update of AORN's "Position statement upon correct site surgery" to include Joint Commission upon Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and Federal pass Management Agency templates. The revised statement will be sent to the House of Delegates for approval, which will be the first trial of having the House in session year globular Staff members are developing a proces for the House to take action without a physical meeting, taking into consideration the legal aspects of of that kind a session.

Policy Committee report. Board members decided the policy manual exigencys to be evaluated and redesigned. An outline has been disentangleed and a preliminary report was given at the July Board meeting.

Congres 2003 The Board agreed with President Watson that a third session of the House and a third Forum tentatively should be placed in succession the schedule for Congress 2003 reserving the option to cancel them if appropriate. Further discussion centering around the House of Delegates and business sessions included

* creating a more efficient revolve call process;

* changing the proces of counting delegates; and

* closing the doors to business sessions at the start time and allowing no avenue or exit during such sessions.
